Applications for the 2016 Indigenous Mapping Workshop open on August 3, 2016.

The upcoming 2016 Indigenous Mapping Workshop will be held from November 7-10, 2016 in Vancouver, BC.

The Indigenous Mapping Workshop, a four-day event, will combine presentations by Indigenous communities, organizations, and researchers using spatial technologies to promote Indigenous rights and interests. Participants will have the opportunity to hear success stories, learn, and share best practices, and will receive training on Google, Esri Canada, and QGIS spatial tools, which participants can use to collect, host, visualize, share and publish community data. The technical training will be co-led by members of the Google Earth Outreach, Esri Canada, and community mapping experts with years of practical experience.

Application Process: Applications will be accepted on a rolling admissions basis starting on August 3, 2016 until all workshop spots are filled.

Cost: Attendance is free. Participants, whose applications are accepted, will be responsible for travel and lodging expenses (if necessary).

Who should attend?: Members of, or people working directly for Indigenous communities; mapping or technology specialists; those who demonstrate interest and ability to implement and make effective use of spatial technologies within their community; and people who are currently working on mapping projects, or are planning mapping projects in their communities.
