The Earth Defenders Toolkit (EDT) is a new platform of value-aligned and open source tools for data collection, management, and digital storytelling. It responds to common needs that Digital Democracy and our partners have identified over the past 15 years working with remote and marginalized communities around the world. The EDT will include tools we have built (like Mapeo Mobile & Desktop) and other open-source tools that are key for frontline environmental defenders, such as Terrastories (a local-first tool for mapping oral histories). The EDT has a collaborative and open approach, inviting partners and indigenous communities to co-create the toolkit and share their digital storytelling knowledge with each other. In this session, we will introduce the platform, and invite feedback from participants to help us ensure that the toolkit will directly serve indigenous communities and reduce dependency on outside technical support.
