IMW in Australia – Our shared journey:
I will share some of the cultural maps made by the Ngarluma community from a remote region of Western Australia and how building these maps led me to Google Earth Outreach and then to the Indigenous Mapping Workshop. The IMW in Australia started in 2018 and is still running strong today 5 years later! Our network has grown year on year and is now the largest indigenous geospatial network for first nations people in Australia. In 2020 we’ve had to pivot to online training and hybrid approaches to maintain our network and offerings – I am keen to share some of the types of organisations who attend our IMW’s and exchange knowledge and practices of indigenous mapping with first nations communities in Canada and beyond.
