GIS is a great tool to assist in mapping your Land Use Plans and your Solid Waste Management. Featuring GIS Specialist Leeanna Rhodes, Land Use Planner Adam Wright, and Solid Waste Management Specialist Stefanie Recollet.

    Adam Wright

    Land Code Governance Planner, First Nations Land Management Resource Centre.

    Adam Wright is a registered professional planner (RPP, MCIP) and works as a Land Code Governance Planner with the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre. Over the past 10 + years Adam’s work has spanned various sectors including private, non-profit, government and academia with a specific focus on the planning processes that regulate and guide land development on First Nations land. In his role with the Resource Centre, Adam provides land-use planning and lands governance support to signatory First Nations communities including; Community Planning, Natural Resource Management, Regional Planning, Capacity Development and Policy Review & Development.  Having been raised, educated and employed on Treaty 7 lands in Alberta and Treaty 3 lands in Ontario, I have a tremendous sense of gratitude for the land and to the First Peoples from these lands. Through my work at the LABRC, I am honoured to support First Nations with respect to their lands governance and community planning efforts and am thankful for the chance to continually learn. I currently live in Calgary, Alberta (Treaty 7 lands) with my wife, our two daughters and our newborn son.

    Leeanna Rhodes is a proud member of the Muscowpetung Saulteaux First Nation, Northeast of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan. Leeanna has been with the Resource Centre as the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist for the last 2.5 years. She gained her land code experience from working with the community ʔaq'am, as their Lands Officer for 6 years. Leeanna received her professional training from SFU and BCIT. She has over 35 years GIS and GPS experience and spent most of her professional career working with several tribal associations and educating First Nations in GIS, these include Haida Gwaii, Gitxsan, Wet’suwet’en, Sto:lo Nation, Treaty 8 and several more. Some of the publications Ms. Rhodes is known for are the Sto:lo Coast Salish Historical Atlas, the video called Peace Out and the book titled, “Where happiness dwells: A history of the Dane-Zaa First Nation”. She will be speaking with fellow RC Team mates Adam Wright and Stefanie Recollet, about how GIS supports informed decision making with Land Use Plans and Solid Waste Management.

    Stefanie Recollet

    Solid Waste Specialist, First Nation Land Management Resource Centre

    Stefanie Recollet is a member of Wahnapitae First Nation, in Northern Ontario. She is from the Crane Clan and a proud Anishinaabe kwe. Stefanie has worked with the Resource Centre as the Waste Management Specialist for the last 3 years. Prior to that she worked with her Tribal Council as the Waste Management Coordinator. She spent the earlier part of her career in Environmental Management for her home community. With an educational background in Law and Community Development, she works with the Environment and Enforcement team to develop strategies for improving environmental governance in solid waste and is a resource in law development, management planning, implementation, and protections. She will be speaking about how GIS supports informed decision making in Solid Waste Management.
