The kind of data we collect and generate with any tool determines the type of stories we can share with that data. Mapeo makes use of default configurations to define the categories, icons and details that a user sees and interacts with when adding geometries or observations to their local databases. But what if a community or a project has specific data analysis needs, or unique stories to share? That is why we have an external tool called the Mapeo configuration builder (A.k.a mapeo-settings-builder). This script pulls together custom icons and .json files to build a Mapeo config file (.mapeosettings) that can be easily loaded by new and intermediate Mapeo users. In this session we will look at the process of designing, authoring and building fully customized configuration files that can yield the level of specificity that many communities want when generating data about their territories.
