This is a hands-on capacity building workshop where you will create, update and share a custom map for a successful Ground Truthing! We acknowledge that there are multiple possible solutions to accomplishing a similar outcome, however this accessible and barrier-free approach is tried, true and tested. Simple and easy to replicate on your own.
• Frustrated with trying to find data and information? We will share some tips and tricks to navigate, search, and download data and information from the CIRNAC website.
• Files not compatible? Through a demonstration and practice you will learn how to convert a .kmz file to .kml file in Googe Earth in seconds.
• Empower every Nation member with the capacity to contribute to community mapping! Through a demonstration and practice you will also learn how to use Google My Maps to create, edit and share a custom map in minutes.

Planning/Engagement Intern, Aubin Consulting
Caitlyn is a Planning/Engagement Intern at Aubin. She has a diploma in Integrated Environmental Planning from Selkirk College and is near completion of a BSc in Environmental Practice from Royal Roads University. She is passionate and committed to environmental protection, restoration, and sustainable land-use planning. She continues to work with the Sylix Okanagan Nation with sockeye salmon conservation and restoration efforts in the Sylix Okanagan Nation Territory. Caitlyn also has experience with parks and municipalities creating maps, management plans, and development permits. She is passionate about creating user-friendly and accessible interactive online maps that incorporate important ecological features and knowledge.

Community Planner, Aubin Consulting
Nisha Cochran is a Community Planner at Aubin Consulting and has a deep rooted passion for advancing equity and inclusivity, amplifying Indigenous voices, and ways in which planning can create more meaningful, sustainable and accessible places through the input of Indigenous people's, youth, Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers. Nisha is a proud Métis woman who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta University of the Arts and a Master of Planning from the University of Calgary. Her academic pursuits have provided her with a strong understanding of visual storytelling and communications, the complexity of human environments within multi-faceted systems, as well as a robust understanding and awareness of how planning policy and decisions are manifested spatially within communities.
