Indigenous Services Canada’s (ISC) Geomatics Services is collaborating with Firelight to form a new Indigenous Geospatial Advisory Committee for Capacity Development (IGAC) to ensure that the ISC’s capacity development projects are directly informed by Indigenous community representatives, to directly address Indigenous community needs. The purpose of the committee is provide a forum for Indigenous geomatics practitioners, along with geomatics industry and academia participants, to guide ISC’s geospatial capacity development initiatives.
In this session, we are rolling-out our call for participation in the new Advisory Committee to members of the Indigenous Mapping Collective. We are also planning an interactive workshop-style engagement session, to inform the roles of the committee, and identify geospatial capacity development priorities and approaches most valued by participants.
The following mandate has been proposed for the advisory committee:
Provide advice, recommendations and oversight to ISC to direct geospatial capacity development initiatives.
Strengthen access to quality and sustainable geospatial capacity building for Indigenous communities or organizations
Ensure that views of Indigenous Mapping Collective members and non-Federal interested parties involved are communicated to ISC to support geospatial capacity development pilot projects.
