In this session we’ll focus on the technical skills and best practices of mapping Indigenous knowledge and traditional land use with Google Earth using the Direct-to-Digital method developed by The Firelight Group. For the purposes of this workshop, we’ll focus on mapping traditional foods. We’ll introduce participants to Google Earth Pro and cover the basics of how to create a simple 3D map with all the feature types – points, lines, and polygons – for mapping. Participants will learn how to plan interviews with knowledge holders, what questions they might ask, what equipment they’ll need to bring and more.
