Fort McKay Indian Reserve No. 174 is home to a majority of Fort McKay First Nation members where non-surveyed residential subdivisions of different sizes encompass the bulk of the community townsite. In 2017, Fort McKay First Nation enacted a series of bylaws to regulate the use and occupancy of land and housing on reserve to give members more comfort and certainty regarding their individual rights in relation to reserve land. However, full implementation of the bylaws was a challenge due to the lack of surveys for the residential lots. This session will discuss a recent project undertaken by Fort McKay First Nation for the acquisition of UAV imagery, the design and surveying of 113 Individual and community lots.
